Cairo: A City of Challenges and Hope
In the heart of Egypt lies Cairo, a mega-city of over 20 million people. It’s a place of rich history and vibrant culture, but also one facing deep economic challenges and cultural resistance to Christian influence. Yet, despite these hurdles, our Global Team in Cairo remains steadfast in their mission. They see beyond the obstacles, envisioning a city where faith and work intersect to bring about God’s shalom—His peace, wholeness, and flourishing.
In September 2023, CPG’s Global City Consultant, Hugh Brandt, visited Cairo to support the team as they prepare to launch a new Leadership Circle in 2024. This initiative is no small feat. The team is currently translating our Spheres of Society material into Arabic, ensuring that local leaders can fully engage with the content. These spheres—Media, Economics, Government, Family, Religion, Art & Celebration, and Education—are central to our approach, helping participants understand how their vocations fit into God’s larger plan for their city.
As one Cairo team member shared, “We know the road ahead is tough, but we also know that God has placed us here for this moment. The Spheres of Society framework gives us a language to talk about renewal in every part of life. It’s not just about faith on Sunday—it’s about faith in the workplace, in our families, and in our communities every day.”
The Power of Leadership Circles
Leadership Circles are at the heart of CPG’s mission. These small, relational communities bring together professionals from diverse backgrounds to explore how their faith can shape their work and, ultimately, their cities. In Cairo, the upcoming Leadership Circle will empower participants to see their vocations—whether in business, education, or government—as integral to God’s redemptive story.
By engaging with the Spheres of Society, leaders will learn to trace the cultural impact of their work back to the beliefs that shape their worldview. More importantly, they’ll discover how to bear fruit that aligns with God’s desire for flourishing. As we’ve seen in cities like Abidjan, where the Spheres material has already been successfully implemented, the results are transformative. Leaders emerge with a renewed sense of purpose, and their collective efforts begin to shift the culture of their city toward God’s kingdom values.
A Vision for 700 United Cities
Cairo is just one chapter in a much larger story. At CPG, we’re working toward a vision of 700 city-wide united communities, each mobilized for renewal through the power of faith-integrated living. These communities, built on the foundation of Leadership Circles, are designed to be self-sustaining and reproducible, spreading from city to city through relational networks and shared purpose.
The impact? Measurable change that catches the attention of the media and, more importantly, reflects God’s glory. As leaders in Cairo and beyond embrace their roles in God’s story, we believe their cities will begin to flourish in ways that point others to the gospel.
